So long as you have even a little bit of shop experience, and I mean like really basic stuff like how to properly measure and cut things, this is a fairly comprehensive and useful read. Of course you can find all of this information for free online, but unless you know what you don't know you'll have no idea where to start-- and if you do have a good idea of where you're lacking, you're at least halfway qualified to write your own book. I only regret not ordering the second volume at the same time.
If you want to turn a parts kit into a working AK, buy this book and the volume 2. Don't expect a lot of specifications and numbers and measurements - they aren't really here. This is meant to be a visual how-to guide of the steps needed and how to do things, and at that, these two little books excel.
Great text but a bit daunting unless you have access to tools required or can improvise (above being mechanically inclined). It's a challenge, so go for it; definitely have your completed build inspected by mister or missus Smith
