I haven't finished the book (yet) only a small portion. But, I must say right now it pained me to stop reading at 4:30 a.m. this morning. I went to sleep with my kindle in my hand more than once.I can't wait to start reading again today. I see another sleepless/workless time until it is finished. I will return at a later time to finish this review. Here's one tidbit to lure you in, Robert might be out of the picture but he's not out of the book!! YAY!I'm ready and waiting for the next book!Ginny Dye just keeps getting better and better!
I thought this series could not get any better after the last book but I was wrong. This book was so awesome. I just love the characters and of course the settings. I feel so connected with the characters. Almost as though they are real people gong through real issues. They seem so alive. Not to mention the historical part. My heart still hurts after the loss of Robert and watching Carrie still struggling with it. l love how the book is taking her through the healing process. I just can't wait for the next book to come out and hope it will be really soon. I don't want to give away any part of the book but I will say that it is awesome to watch people from all different walks in life and beliefs find a way to work together to try and make the country even a little better. I learned a lot about the Indians and what was happening to them after the civil war. I am ashamed to be a white person even more than before I read this book. I have always had a love and interest in the American Indian. I love learning their history so this book taught me even more about them. All they wanted was to live on their land. Land that their gods gave them and to live in peace. I really believe everyone should get this book and read it. If you haven't read the books before this one, I would highly suggest you start with the first book and follow this family through the civil war and now after it. Read and learn about the struggles people on both sides had to go through to join forces in the fight for justice for all no matter their race, religion, sex, or political views. Ginny--keep up the good work and keep the books coming!!
I just finished this book, #10 in The Bregdan Chronicles. Once again, I was struck by how much research Ginny Dye had to do in order to write this book. As with all of her books, the history is more interesting because instead of being in 'history book' form, the characters have conversations about what is going on around them. I have followed Carrie Cromwell Borden since book #1 and have watched her go through many, many changes. The beloved characters in this book are going through changes themselves and we watch as they separate and go about their lives...for a time. Even though the war is over, the south is a VERY dangerous place to be for blacks and others as well. I won't give away any more of the book..but if you have not read it, I urge you to do so. Once again, Ginny Dye has created a magnificent book.
I have read every book in The Bregdan Chronicles Series, and have enjoyed them all. Although Walking Into the Unknown was my least favorite, I still found the book to be inspirational and uplifting. The lengthy descriptions and flashbacks, though, did slow the pace of the book down.Walking Into The Unknown begins where book nine left off. Carrie Borden is on Cromwell plantation grieving the loss of her husband, Robert. Even though, Carrie knew that Robert died saving someone whom they both loved, her pain still crippled her. To complete her medical degree and get away from the plantation where she had lived with Robert, Carrie decided to travel to New Mexico and help the oppressed Navajo Indians. The Indians had been forced from their land to Basque Redondo, a new Reservation. Ever since the move, though, they have been dying of starvation and disease. So, Carrie gathered up a team of medical students who were willing to travel to New Mexico, across rough and dangerous terrain by wagon, in order to assist the Indians in need. I loved reading about the Navajo Indians and wished that the book contained even more about them. It’s obvious, though, that the author did a lot of research for this novel. All in all, I enjoyed Walking Into the Unknown and will definitely continue reading The Bregdan Chronicles Series.
I don't even know what to say about this series. I hope it doesn't end for one thing. It's history in a way that I've never learned it and wish it had been taught to us all in school. It's history in a way that I'm loving teaching it to my 12 year old daughter and in a way that's absolutely heart wrenching to teach her at the same time. How could these atrocities have happened and we didn't know about them? But that's what makes a great author. I didn't review that last book because it was too heartbreaking too raw and painful for me to do so. These characters become so real to us and when they experience something we have it take us back. However, when they learn something we learn something. I LOVE that!!! I would like to think that in reading these books not only are people learning history but they're also learning how to navigate through some of life trials and tribulations. I think that is what Ms. Dye is teaching us in each of these books. When I read them before I thought "Oh! What a great history lesson. Oh! What a great story." Now I know it's more that. These are life lessons. Each and every one. Be thoughtful, be brave, be kind.
