This hardcover companion to the History Channel's "The Bible" miniseries is a good contemporary novelization of the Bible. Rather than covering every book of the Bible, it focuses on the key people who established covenants with God (Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Jesus) and on their stories in addition to some key supporting figures. Like the 10-hour miniseries, this book offers a contemporary spin on the Bible that is fresh and easy for people today to get into. It's probably the only really good Bible novelization I've seen in many years. I would recommend this book as summer reading for any youth, young adult, or adult sacred scripture class as an appetizer to reading the Bible itself.There is also a separate "young reader's edition" of this work for younger age groups that is basically the same book in simplified form. Both of the authors -- husband-and-wife filmmaking team Roma Downey and Mark Burnett -- are either Catholic (Downey) or in Burnett's case raised with Catholic influences, but Burnett is now an evangelical Protestant and the style of both books is ecumenical. Anyone could read and understand this book, particularly those who find the main Biblical text difficult to read or comprehend, and who desire something simpler as a starting point. As the title -- "A Story of God and All of Us" -- suggests, this book brings you into the Biblical narrative and makes it easier to make it part of the story of your own life. I recommend it.

I wish that I could have given this book five stars, but it lacked the strength of the authors. It fell into a narration and summary of events.If this was the intent of the authors, then it's fine. Perhaps next time they can become more committed to expressing their own views and experiences in the form of anecdotes. And this book had at least four "bugs" that should have been noted or found in previous edits.

I love this book. I actually read it last year during Lent, and it's going to be my Lenten reading. It presents the Bible stories in a novel-like fashion. It makes them much more understandable and enjoyable.

This book took the complicated Bible and broke it down into a Novel form that made the stories easy to understand. It really made me appreciate the bible more and strengthened my relationship with God.

An interesting perspective on many time tested stories from the Bible. A good reminder in a sometimes dramatic way of these familiar stories for those with a background knowledge of the Bible.For those not very familiar it is a great introduction to the core of what the Bible is all about as long as one realizes that the author has taken some poetic/dramatic license.

I loved the clarity of the story.

Anyone who is a Bible student will find this rather washed down too much and not very litteral to the Scripture. It makes a nice story though.

One of my favorite books, other than the BIBLE! Very, very wonderful read, if you are into the BIBLE.
